On Sunday, June 29th, the Arts Council of the Morris Area presents its milestone 25th Anniversary Giralda Lawn Concert on the rolling lawns of the Giralda Farms Corporate Park in Madison (the former estate of Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge), Dodge Drive/Rt. 124 (Madison Ave.) in Madison, NJ. Although much time has elapsed and much has changed in the world, the Giralda Lawn Concert remains an enduring classic. Hello all,

I am sending this notice in hopes that some of you may be interested in meeting me in Morristown at Greenberry’s Coffee shop on the green to distribute posters and flyers for our upcoming fundraising event The Giralda Concert on the Lawn” featuring the NJ Symphony on June 29, 2008. I had this idea when I was trying to think of a “fun” way to get all these posters out so that we can get more people to attend this year and so that The Arts Council can make more money to continue to promote the arts in Morris County.

Here is the drill……

Meet at Greenberry’s coffee shop on the green in Morristown at 10:00 on Saturday, May 31st if you are from surrounding areas (of Morristown) simply stop by have a cup of joe, take some posters and flyers and take them back to your community to distribute them. If you want to saturate the Morristown area just grab some scotch tape (will be provided) and pound the pavement.

The person or group that gets the highest number of businesses in a town to actually put up a poster or put flyers on their counter wins a prize! The prize is- a bottle of wine and six free tickets to the Giralda Farms Concert a $90. value!

So let me know if you are interested..

I look forward to hearing from you- I promise it will be fun! Bring your friends if you don’t want to do anything just come and hang out at the coffee shop------

Rehearsals for Touring Orchestra – Seniors need to join the Intermediate’s Tuesday Rehearsal either 4/8/08 OR 4/15/08
Mandatory rehearsal for all on Tuesday 5/6/08

Lakeland will pay for the bus, dinner & t-shirt. Bring a small amount of money for lunch.

Attire: Wear your tour t-shirt and “neat” denim jeans or skirt.

Bring your violin and music

You do not need a change of clothes. The water park is not open.

Itinerary:

8:30 Meet at The Music Shop (our rehearsal space)
8:45 Bus leaves for Panasonic. Panasonic will host us for an educational tour of the Company. They will provide us with lunch. We will then perform for their employees during their lunch hours.
3:30 Return to The Music Shop

Please bring your instrument, music stand and music. Wear concert attire.
NO jeans or sneakers

Welcome back! As we start our second season in our beautiful space at The Music Shop, please remember that there is no food or drink allowed in the rehearsal room. All musicians should be in their seats and ready to play at the start of rehearsal time. Please pick up your child on time, as conductors cannot wait for you. Our season calendar is now available. We will have mandatory parents’ meetings on the first days of rehearsal as follows:

Preludes will be on 9/10/07 at 6:30 pm.
Seniors will be on 9/10/07 at 7:00 pm
Juniors and Intermediates will be on 9/11/07 at 6:45pm

Committee sign-up sheets will be available at the parents’ meetings. Please volunteer for one or more jobs. Our parent volunteers are essential to making our programs possible.

Lakeland Trip to Ahn Trio at the Community Theatre

The Ahn Trio is a classical musical ensemble composed of three sisters. What makes the Ahn Trio so unique is that they are classical musicians with impeccable credentials and a career and a purpose that is having a stunning impact on the concert and the chamber music world. People Magazine places all three Ahn Trio members in the "50 Most Beautiful People" list.

Lakeland Youth Symphony has a limited number of tickets available to all Lakeland students and their families. These tickets are discounted at $30 each. We are accepting orders by mail only.

The Lakeland picnic and art workshop will be on Saturday, October 13 at 2 pm in the Lenni Lenape Park in Parsippany. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while meeting other Lakeland families.

We have purchased fifty discounted tickets for The Ahn Trio at the Community Theatre in Morristown on Sunday, October 28. Look for a flyer to be distributed in class and available on the website.

Boston Performance Tour!

On April 27 - 29, the Lakeland Youth Symphony Touring Orchestra, a group comprised of members of the Intermediate and Senior Orchestras, will go on a performance tour of Boston. The orchestra, directed by Debra Seftel, will be performing at the Mary Baker Eddy Library/Museum in Boston and in the historic town of Wilmington, established in 1730. Students and parents can view the itinerary here.

(featuring students reading the whimsical poems of Ogden Nash

Touring Orchestra Free Concert on April 22

The Lakeland Youth Symphony Touring Orchestra invites you to a free strings concert on Sunday April 22 at 2 p.m. in the parish center of Saint Pius X Church on Changebridge Road in Montville. The parish center is located behind the school building on the lower parking level. This concert is your opportunity to enjoy the same concert that the Touring Orchestra will perform in Boston. Jacqueline Cohen First Richard L. Short Memorial Award Winner

The Richard L. Short Memorial Award will be presented annually at the spring concert to a graduating senior, in recognition of years of dedication and commitment to the Lakeland Youth Symphony. The Board will select a deserving student based on involvement, leadership qualities, musicianship, and volunteer efforts on behalf of Lakeland. Each recipient will receive a plaque, a monetary award, and their name on a plaque that will remain in the Rehearsal Hall, listing each year's honorees. This award will inspire students to give their best to Lakeland while remembering Richard Short for his generosity and support of the students and mission of the Lakeland Youth Symphony for so many years. Congratulations to Jacqueline Cohen, our first recipient of the Richard L. Short Memorial Award. Jackie will be attending Boston University in the fall, where she will continue to play violin. We are so proud of her. Good luck to you Jacqueline!
