Lakeland Youth Symphony

Happy Anniversary

The year was 1957. It started with a few families who believed in the value of music to a child’s education. The commitment of these families and their donations of time and talents were essential in getting a fledging youth orchestra off the ground.

Fifty years later, the mission and values of the Lakeland Youth Symphony haven’t changed. We still rely on the commitment of parents who bring their children to Suzuki classes or rehearsals and who make sure their children practice every week. While the organization is much bigger now, and boasts wonderful professional conductors, it still couldn’t function without its volunteers. In fifty years, the Lakeland Youth Symphony has helped to develop hundreds of young musicians. Along the way, friendships grew. Children gained confidence in their abilities. And year after year, parents and grandparents swelled with pride at their child’s performance in concert.

In this anniversary year, the Lakeland Youth Symphony will celebrate its tradition of musical excellence with a very special event. Musicians, family, alumni and community leaders will gather for a gala performanceon March 28, 2008 to raise money for scholarships to the Lakeland Youth Symphony Suzuki violin program. It is our hope that this will begin a new tradition of offering this wonderful experience to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity.
