Senja Hawken
Prelude Teaching Artist
Canadian violinist Senja Hawken is in demand as a solo, chamber, and orchestral performer. She completed a Bachelor’s of Music and an Artist Diploma in violin performance from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with Erika Raum, and completed her Master’s Degree under the tutelage of the Cleveland Orchestra’s Erich Eichhorn.
Before moving to Norway, Senja participated in the Banff Music Summer Festival and was a faculty assistant at the Interprovincial Music camp. After finishing her studies, she moved to Scandinavia and had the privilege of playing and touring with the Bergen Philharmonic, Stavanger and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestras. Senja was also a solo violinist for productions of A Dolls House, Les Miserables, West Side Story and Beauty and the Beast. Ms. Hawken had the honour of working under the baton of Andrew Litton, Neemi Jarvi, Sir Andrew Davis, Rafael Frubeck De Burgos, Edward Gardner, Sir Phillip Ledger and Bramwell Tovey.
Senja began teaching at the Brant Suzuki String School as a teenager and taught for the Bergen Culture School from 2009-2013. She has taught violin and piano at The Denville Music Academy since 2023. Ms. Senja, as her students call her, currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children.
